For Families
Childcare Subsidy
The Government Child Care Subsidy (CCS) aims to make early learning and childcare more affordable and we’re here to ensure families have all the tools and information to feel confident about the CCS, and your eligibility.
The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is designed to help reduce your out-of-pocket childcare costs. Depending on your circumstances, you could have up to 90% of your childcare fees covered.
The amount you receive depends on various factors, including your family’s income, the age and number of your children, and your family’s participation in paid and unpaid activities, such as work or volunteering.
Maximizing your subsidy means more time for your child in care, which is crucial for their learning and development. While the details can be complex, we’ve simplified the process with our easy-to-use Child Care Subsidy Calculator, so you can quickly see how much you may be eligible for.
How To Calculate Childcare Subsidy
You can use this calculator to estimate your Childcare Subsidy entitlements.
The Child Care Subsidy provides financial assistance to help reduce the cost of childcare, Preschool and Kindergarten. CCS is paid directly to childcare providers to reduce the out of pocket cost you pay. How much your family is entitled to depends on factors including your family’s income, your child’s age, your family’ activity hours including work, volunteering, studying and searching for work. Some families, such as those facing temporary hardship, may be eligible for additional support.
Who can get the child care subsidy?
Rather than families receiving a child care rebate directly, the CSS is paid directly to providers to reduce the child care fees you pay.
To get the CCS, you must:
- Care for a child 13 or younger who’s not attending secondary school, unless an exemption applies
- Use an approved child care service
- Be responsible for paying the child care fees
- Meet residency and immunisation requirements
How much can I claim?
Your CCS is calculated using three components:
- Your combined family income
- Your level of activity, such as work, education, or volunteering.
- Your childcare provider’s hourly rate
You may also be able to get a higher subsidy if you have more than one child in care.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children may be able to access CCS without the activity test. Visit the Services Australia website to find out more.
How do I apply for Childcare Subsidy?
You apply for the CCS online using your Services Australia or MyGov account.
You can use the Services Australia eligibility tool to guide you through the process of applying for a new childcare subsidy and more information about eligibility criteria can be found on the Services Australia website
